Girls Overboard

Photographer Anke Leunissen and stylist Kim de Groot are two young creatives hailing from the Netherlands, sharing a love for shooting homes in an improvised, spontaneous way.

It is clear to see in this Amsterdam Houseboat feature shot by Anke and Kim that two heads are certainly better than one – and a lot more fun!

Describing her style as “colorful, not too serious, fresh and playful”, Anke’s work captures portraits of people in their homes filled with their favorite things. Claiming inspiration from her current ‘addictions’; magazines, movies, traveling and baby daughter Isis, Anke learned the tricks of the photography trade through trial and error after graduating from the Netherlands Art Academy studying textiles and photography.

Teaming up with stylist Kim de Groot, a graduate from the Vogue Styling Academy in Amsterdam, saw collaboration between two kindred spirits. Having both grown up in the south of Holland, the pair share a common love of the pursuit of a bohemian like lifestyle with an emphasis on a relaxed and paired back style.

Preferring a mixture of old and new and worn and distressed over shiny and new, Kim’s styling is more conceptual by nature rather than obvious reinterpretation. The recent incarnation of a gallery space in the basement of Amsterdam’s Friday Next concept store to showcase the work of both young and established artists has been Kim’s latest passion.
